Remix Collective: We Come In Pieces

July 12-August 25, 2019
The Thames Art Gallery, Chatham, Ontario

The Remix Gallery Collective is comprised of five Canadian artists from different backgrounds and life experiences who make sophisticated Outsider artwork. Mainly based in symbolism, Outsider Art is the antithesis of constrained and traditional. It expresses the turmoil of contemporary life through a kaleidoscope lens. With emphasis on Collage and Assemblage, “We Come in Pieces” will incorporate mythological and dreamlike distortions, resulting in colourful, creative and controversial pieces of art with a trace of humour. Made mostly from recycled materials, the artwork is outside the mainstream of art in Canada, particularly that seen in Canadian commercial galleries. It often has, but is not limited to, having political or sociological content. The Remix Gallery Collective prides itself in making art that is genuine, unique, and rooted in freedom.

REMIX GALLERY COLLECTIVE: INAUGURAL EXHIBITION

Remix Gallery, Petrolia, Ontario September 29 – November 15, 2018

The Remix Collective was established when five innovative Canadian artists from different backgrounds and life experiences met over Facebook. Recognizing how they shared certain values, namely the freedom to do any type of work they wished to do without constraint and outside the mainstream of art in Canada, they launched their inaugural exhibition at the Remix Gallery in Petrolia in 2018.“Remix” refers to when something has been altered from its original state by adding, removing, and changing its parts or pieces to create something new — a most fitting name for this formidable group of artists: Norman Barney (Petrolia, Ontario), Claude Bolduc (Saint-Eustache, Quebec), Karine Giboulo (Montreal, Quebec), Terry Graff (Island View, New Brunswick), and Laurie Langford (Chatham, Ontario).
